Launched in 2003, the Department of Risk Management and Insurance is the only tertiary education provider of insurance in Southern China, who offers undergraduate, master and Ph. D. programs in insurance.
The teaching and research areas of the Department address on business insurance, social security and insurance, risk management and financial engineering, and actuary. Research Center for Social Security, Sun Yat-sen University, and Sun Yat-sen University-Cigna HIAA Testing Center under the Department have cultivated groups of insurance and actuarial talents and gained favorable comments in the insurance community. The Department has young and highly academic faculty, including 4 with experience in post-doctoral research at home and abroad.
The Department has invited prestigious experts to be visiting professors, among which are Mr. Zheng Gongcheng, member of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress, professor of the Renmin University of China and Director of the China Research Center for Social Security, Mr. Wei Yingning, Vice President of China Insurance Regulatory Commission, Mr. Ma Mingzhe, Chairman and CEO of Ping“An Insurance Company, Prof. Harry Panjer, President of the North American Actuarial Association, and Prof. Li Fengsheng, Head of the Department of Statistics and Actuary of Boston University.
